Obituary - Mrs. Bertie Beard McLaughlin, 87, of Follansbee, died Tuesday Apr 28, 1987, in her home.  She was a retired teacher and a  member of the Tent Church Homemakers, Order of the Eastern Star, and Follansbee Methodist Church.  Surviving are a brother, Layke Beard of Marlinton; four sisters, Wawa Gilmore and Josephine Myers, both of Durbin, Mildred Marcum of Charleston, and Jean Irons of Stone Mountain Georgia.  She was born January 7, 1900, in Arbovale, a daughter of the late Leslie and Ruby Rawson Beard.   She also was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle McLaughlin.  Services were held the following Friday at 1 p. m. at the James Funeral Home with burial in St. John Cemetery at Follansbee.  Order of the Eastern Star Services were held the night before. 
Obituary - Lyle L. McLaughlin was born March 3, 1899, and died May 9, 1985.  He is survived by his wife, Bertie Beard McLaughlin.  They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 9.   Lyle was the son of the late John Letcher and Minnie McLaughlin.  he was one of eight children.  He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters : Nelie McLaughlin of Dunmore, and Gladys M. Bose of 29728 Cresthaven Drive, Willowick, Ohio.  he was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin McLaughlin, and four sisters, Hallie Gutsall, Mollie McLaughlin, Leta Adams, and Dorothy Hall.  Lyle was an educator who started his career in Hillside School, a one room school in Pocahontas County, and finished his career as Principal of Colliers School in Brook County.  He was a member of Follansbee Methodist Church, where he taught a Sunday School class for many years.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason.  Services were conducted at the James Funeral Home in Follansbee, with his minister, Rev. William Calhoun officiating.  Internment was in the St. John's Cemetery, with Masonic graveside services.
