Deaton Campbell, age 89, of Sinks Grove, died Thursday, August
3, 2000, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea.
Mr. Campbell was born in Leslie County, Kentucky, April 13,
1911, a son of the late Horry and Bertha Deaton Campbell.
He was a retired Monroe County Vo-Ag teacher with 30 years
service, a retired dairyman, charter and still active member of
the Bluegrass Ruritan Club at Pickaway, a graduate of West
Virginia University and also of Berea College, a member and
officer of the WV Dairy Herd Improvement Association, AARP, WV
Teachers Association, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He
attended the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church and was a former
Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Campbell also served on the Monroe County Board of
Health and the Monroe County Health Center Board of Trustees for
29 years. Preceding him in death were two brothers,
Eugene and Dean Campbell, and two sisters, Gladys and Avis
Campbell.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Callison
Campbell, of Sinks Grove, a native of Beard in Pocahontas
County; two daughters, Ruth Sturgill, of Ronceverte, and Helen
Graves, of Sinks Grove; one grandson; and one sister, Ellen
Eversole, of Deputy, Indiana.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Mount
Pleasant Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Deana Armstrong, Rev.
Billy Reed Wickline and Doug Fisk. Burial was at the New Lebanon
Cemetery at Pickaway.
Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe County 4-H
Foundation at P. O. Box 238, Union, WV 24983, the Mount Pleasant
Presbyterian Church, or Berea College. |
