Obituary : Rachael Beard McNeel, daughter of John G. and Elizabeth Jane
Beard, was born near Hillsboro, West Virginia, August 10, 1868 and died of
pneumonia, March 24, 1939. She united in marriage by Rev. A. C. Hamill
to George Alexander McNeel at Hillsboro, December 12, 1894, of this union
there were born six children; three boys and three girls. She was
converted under the ministry of Rev. W. C. Early and united with the
Methodist Church at Hillsboro November 16, 1924 of which she was a
consistent member. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, George
Alexander McNeel, her six children, Jason Blair McNeel, Lewisburg, Polly
McNeel, Covington, Virginia; George Earl McNeel,, Biand, Ohio; Mattie Davis
McNeel; Margaret Beard McNeel and Alexander McNeel, Jr. at home; two sisters
: Mrs. Mattie McNeel and Mrs. Jennie Hill of Farmington, Washington, and the
brother , George W. Beard of Hillsboro. One sister, Minnie Beard,
preceded her in death, and one brother, Willie Beard, died in infancy.
Three half-brothers, Luther J. beard, Jim W. Beard and Joel Winters Beard
preceded her. Mrs. McNeel spent her entire life to the Hillsboro
community. She loved her home and was devoted to her family. She
was the very soul of industry and counted it no hardship to be called upon
to sacrifice if only she could serve the better. She lived a good life
and carefully trained her children. She watchfully guarded her home from
worldly and unworthy influences. Just a few days before her final
illness she warned her family of the necessity of being prepared when God
called them. A faithful wife, a devoted mother, a good friend, and a
kind neighbor, her going is mourned by a host of friends and loved ones.
The funeral service was conducted at the home by her pastor. Rev. L.S.
Shires, Sunday March 26 after which her body was laid to reset in the Oak
Grove Cemetery. Our hearts go out in tender sympathy to her bereaved
loved ones. |

Obituary : Mrs. Rachel Beard McNeel, wife of Alex McNeel died at her
home near Hillsboro on Friday afternoon, March 24, 1939, after a short
illness of pneumonia. her age was seventy years. Burial on
Sunday afternoon in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery, the service being
conducted by Rev. L.S. Shires. Mrs. McNeel was a a daughter of the
late John G. and Elizabeth Blair Beard. her sisters are Mrs. Mattie
McNeel and Mrs. Fannie Hill, both of Farmington, Washington. her
brother is George Beard. She is survived by her husband and their six
children, Blair, George, Polly, Margaret, Martha, and Alex J. |
