| Obituary - James Edward Beard - aged 45 years, died Saturday morning, December 13, 1958, from a shotgun blast in the chest. Apparently he was putting the gun in his truck when it accidentally discharged. He was preparing to go to Jerryville, in Webster County, to set up an office there for the Beckley Coal and Coke Company, by whom he was employed as a bookkeeper. Born April 8, 1913, at Hillsboro, he was the son of the late George and Gracie McCarty Beard. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Hook Beard. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy Construction Battalion. He was a member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Marlinton Methodist Church where funeral services were held Monday afternoon by his pastor, the Rev. Herbert Pennington, Jr. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Hillsboro. |

| Beard - Hook - Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Hook of Millpoint, West Virginia, announce the marriage of their daughter, Lillian Genevieve to James Beard, son of George Beard, of Hillsboro, WV on August 31, 1940 at Grayson, Kentucky. Rev. Alonzo Outland, of the First Baptist Church, read the ceremony. The bridge is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and the Charleston Business College and was formerly employed by the Standard Oil Company of Charleston. The groom also attended Hillsboro High School and is employed by the International Shoe Company at Marlinton, where they will reside. |
