Obituary - BE19631 - McNEEL, Jacob Moffet - 66 widely known Pocahontas County farmer, died Thursday night at his home in Hillsboro after a long illness. Service will be 2 PM Sunday in Oak Grove Presbyterian Church at Hillsboro. Rev. Colllier S. Harvey Jr. and Rev. J.D.Arbuckle will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. McNeel was active in church and civic affairs and had served as a clerk of the Presbyterian session. He was a member and elder of Oak Grove Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rachel Ann Edgar McNeel; two sons, Samuel McNeel Jr. of Miami FL and Jacob McNeel Jr. at home. two daughters, Mrs. Mary Hilleary of Hillsboro and Mrs. Earl Edwards of Charleston, a sister Mrs. Lida Bartholomew of Hillsboro; and eight grandchildren. The body is at Smith mortuary in Marlinton. |
| Obituary - Mrs. Lida McNeel Bartholomew, 89, of Hillsboro, died Friday, February 24, 1984, in the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital after a couple of days' illness. She was born June 9, 1894, near Hillsboro, the daughter of Samuel E. and Mary Beard McNeel. Mrs. Bartholomew was a member of the Oak Grove [longest time member] and a life member of the Women of the Church. She was preceeded in death by her husband, G. B Bartholomew, a brother, J. Moffet McNeel, Sr., a nephew, Samuel E. McNeel, and a niece, Mary McNeel Hilliary. Surviving her are a nephew, J. Moffett McNeel Jr., of Hillsboro, a niece, Nancy McNeel Edwards, of Lillian, Arkansas, and great-nephews and 13 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in teh Oak Grove Presbyterian Church by the Rev. J. D. Arbuckle with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery. |
