Margaret Ann Knapp originally married a Huntsonpillar (no children) who died in 1843. Samuel Beard was her second marriage.

Samuel Beard married Ruth Sabina Gillilan, after the death of Margaret in 1850. He had one son by her, Michael Oscar Beard, who went on to marry Emma Mildred Yeager.
