Page 2 Some data from the
Periodical Accounts about E. E. Reinke, died September 3, 1894:
1844 went to serve in Jamaica, at first in schools
1859 returned to USA. Served in Brooklyn, New York, Olney
1867 New Fairfield, Canada, among the Delaware Indians
1873 returned to Jamaica, retired 1888
In New Fairfield he found his congregation disorganized and the buildings
out of repair. "But the blessing of the Master evidently rested on his
labors, and he left the mission premised in thorough repair, the land in
cultivation, a fine orchard of young trees; the common before the church and
house transferred into a beautiful park-like grove; the cemetery preserved
from the wash of the river, and the congregation thoroughly in hand. His
influence over the Indians was great owing to his ability to preach in
Delaware, and was universally recognized as the Red Man's friend". Quoted
from the Moravian in Periodical Accounts. Sent by G.R. Heath from St. Thomas
in the summer of 1949. |
