Joel P. Beard of Hillsboro died Monday May 2, 1966 in the University of Virginia Hospital Charlottesville, Virginia after a short illness. He was the son of the late M. Lee Beard and Emma Clark Beard. He was born in March 15, 1892, and lived all his life in the Hillsboro community where he took active part in community life. he was a ruling elder of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Mamie Cackley Beard; two daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Frances) Stulting, and Mrs. Hubert (Virginia Lee) Callison, and the following grandchildren, Richard Lee Stulting and Ann Stulting Plunkett, Joel, Carolyn and Jane Callison; two sisters Mrs. Harry (Eva) Fehrie of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Arden (Leeta) Killingsworth of Marlinton. Also several nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5 at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harry Painter in charge. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Joel Beard - Mrs. Mamie Ruth Cackley Beard, 94 of Hillsboro, died on Saturday, July 9, 1983 in Greenbrier Valley Hospital after a long illness. She was a homemaker, a member of the Hillsboro Extension Homemakers Club, a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, and an Honorary Life Member of the Women of the Church. Born at Mill Point on November 2, 1888, she was the daughter of Franklin Lee and Virginia Nottingham Cackley. Her husband, Joel Penick Beard and a brother, William Havey Cackley, preceded her in death. Mrs. Beard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John [Mary Frances} Stulting, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Mrs. Hubert [Virginia Lee] Callison, of Hillsboro; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM in the Callison home by the Rev. J. D. Arbuckle, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Joel P. Beard, of Hillsboro, celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding anniversary on Wednesday, September 1, 1965, with a dinner at Kelley's Restaurant given by their daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Frances) Stulting of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Mrs. Hubert (Virginia Lee) Callison, of Beard.

Mr. and Mrs. Beard were married at her home in Mill Point. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. F. Lee Cackley.

Those attending were. Mr. and Mrs. John Stulting and daughter Mrs. Ann Plunkett, of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Callison and children. Joel, Jane, and Carolyn of Beard; Mr. and Mrs. William Cackley of Mill Point, brother and sister in law of Mrs. Beard, and Mr. and Mrs. Arden Killingsworth, of Marlinton, brother-in-law and sister of Mr. Beard.

Mr. and Mrs. Beard have spent their entire lives in the Little Levels Community and they have been active in all community and church affairs.
