Callison-Beard - Miss Virginia Lee Beard, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joel P. Beard
of Hillsboro, became the bride of Hubert Samuel Callison, son of
Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Callison
of Beard, in a ceremony performed on Tuesday afternoon, August
1, 1944, at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro.
Dr. Samuel Moore, of Fort Pierce, Florida, assisted by Rev. J.
K. Fleming read the 4 o'clock service before and arch of
rhododendron flanked by tall vases filled with white gladioli.
Lighted tapers in candelabra formed the background. A
program of nuptial music was presented by Miss Dorothy McNeel,
who also played traditional marches. Miss Dorothy Clutter,
cousin of he bride, sang "I Love You Truly". Given in
marriage by her father, the bride was gowned in a chantilly lace
dress designed with sweetheart neckline, long pointed sleeves
and a full skirt which fell in a long train. Her finger
tip length veil was draped from a Juliet cap held in place by
stephanotis and she carried a circular bouquet of white
gardenias and stephanotis. She was attended by her sister,
Mrs. John Stulting
of Charlottesville, Virginia, as matron of honor, who was gowned
in a pink satin and chiffon bouffant dress and carried an arm
bouquet of pink rose buds. Similar flowers were worn in

Callison was best man for his son, and the ushers were
Robert Beard, of
Lewisburg, and John
Stulting of Charlottesville, Virginia. A reception
was held at the home of the bride for seventy-five guests.
Mrs. Beard received the guest in a navy sheer with navy and
white accessories. Mrs. Callison, mother of the groom,
received in a pink printed sheer with white accessories.
Both wore shoulder corsages of white gardenias. The home
was decorated with bowls of summer flowers. The brides
table was entered with a crystal bowel of pink rose buds and
white snapdragons. one one end of the table was placed the
tiered wedding cake decorated with miniature bridal figurines,
which was served by Mrs. John Stulting. at the other end
of the table was placed the punch bowel presided over by
Miss Leeta Beard, aunt of
the bride. Aides in the dining room were Mrs. Robert
Hartley, of Morgantown, Miss Ruth Marie Ridenour, of ...
Mr. Callison is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and
Greenbrier Military School and attended West Virginia
University. he is now in the X-ray Department of
Engineers, Inc. near Philadelphia. |
