| Obituary - Samuel Monroe Beard son of Josiah Osbourne Beard and Eveline Medora Yeager was born near Green Bank March 25, 1886, and died at his home at Green Bank Friday, November 24, after a long illness; aged 64 years, 7 months, and 29 days. On June 5, 1912, he married Mary Brown. To this union was born: Dorr Fenton Beard at home; Elizabeth Heavener of Sharon, Pa.; Nell Lorraine Mullenax and Margaret Monroe Offutt, of Arbovale; also three grandchildren; all of whom survive. He is survived by one brother, Brown B. Beard of Bartow; his twin sister Margie Beard Arbogast of Millpoint and sisters Nellie Bly Snedegar and Wilma Beard Harper, both of Elkins. Funeral services were held at the family residence Sunday, November 26 at 2 P.M. with the Rev. Quade Arbogast in charge, assisted by Rev. A. I. Tenney and Rev. H. Graham Keyes. His grand-niece Yvonne Gilmore, sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "The Lord's Prayer". Interment followed in the Arbovale Cemetery. Active pall bearers were Lake Beard, Beard Kerr, Argil Arbogast, Warren Brown, Forrest Burner, and Vere Barkley. Mr. Beard was an honest and exemplary citizen. The highest tribute that can be expressed is a poem by Sam Walter Foss, "That he lived by the side of the road and was a friend to man". |
